I’d probably consider taking on the folk from @cyclingtips on the ”Col de Roll“ rides if I had one of these handy…!

And today’s strangest victory salute goes to….
I don’t know the details of the rider or the race just yet, I’ll do my best to track them down though!
@geelongcycling summer crits - or maybe it was cyclo cross? It got a little hard to tell there for a while.
For those that are interested I pushed as hard as I could to have our race run even though the track was damp to wet in places. We shortened the course to remove some of the technical aspects and the race went ahead, there was light rain during the race but this did not impede on the safety of the course whatsoever.
In my opinion there were no issues racing on the Belmont Island track when it is wet so long as there isn’t standing water on the course. Today it was certainly grippy enough to race on, the riders in our race were smart and didn’t test the limits but we had a good fun hard race regardless.
As with any race you judge the conditions and race to the level that the course allows you to, anyone who uses the excuse “you can’t control what others do” or “I don’t want to be bought down by someone else” really need to reconsider why they race at all as it doesn’t matter if it’s wet, dry, hot, cold, windy or whatever; accidents can occur.
However, when the rain really started coming down hard in other races and standing water was forming on the course the correct decision was made to abandon these races.
End of Rant.
He’s some more pictures from the mens race at the 2010 world champs.

Hmm … this slideshow thingamajiggy seems new.
While I’m still in the Melbourne Cup mood, here’s another from the 6th stage of the 2007 Tour de Suisse. Call me nuts but like true professionals these riders are actually trying to get a draft off that horse… I’m sure the UCI would consider any use of equine related substances to improve performance a doping violation??
This is from the 1997 Tour de France It is Melbourne Cup Day after all so I thought I’d get into the mood.. somewhat.
Thanks to @teamtraveller for putting me onto this.
@geelongcycling Summer Criterium Series Race 2 was run today, I’ve put together some pictures from the day’s racing - enjoy.

#2010worlds #prowatch Mark Cavendish did not have a good day in Geelong for the 2010 World Champs, he struggled on the climbs and the heat ultimately losing contact with the leading groups.
You know, I raced against this guy in 1993 (Brisbane Uni Games) and he kicked my butt (he actually kicked everyone’s butt) and I’m tipping he’d kick my butt just as much now.
I’m claiming that my butt’s a bit bigger now so it’d be easier for him to kick it ;) I have a picture of me in that race with Robbie McEwen, it was a criterium around the University of Queensland’s St Lucia Campus.
There was a soccer match going on next to us and someone kicked the ball into the peloton and the ball hit my pedal shot off me backwards and I recall hearing brakes squealing, followed by metal (no carbon frames in those days!) on asphalt…. I decided not to look behind me as it sounded pretty messy.
I’m pretty sure McEwen won that race, and the Time Trial and the Road Race…
